Universities in People’s Republic of China have been seeing an increasing number of Indian students enrolled for studying MBBS degree courses in recent years.
Among the Indian students many believe that studying medicine in China is completely affordable with better infrastructure and safety of the students. This will also broaden their horizons and improve their job prospects, if they wish to continue their practice as doctors in the USA or back home in India.
Institutions in China are eager to attract Indian students to improve their diversity on campus and enjoy the full tuition fees they bring.
In the last academic year there were 1,000 Indian students studying MBBS in various medical universities in China. And the number has increased by an average of 5 percent over the last three academic years.
Pankaj Malhotra chose to study at Shihezi University – School of Medicine simply because of the university’s high academic performance in the recent past.
“So I went to the China MBBS Educational Institution and I looked at the rank and I applied to the top five Universities,” said Pankaj Malhotra, 2nd year student, Shihezi University – School of Medicine.
However, he is skeptical about things advertised on glossy magazines, newspaper and promotional brochures trying to attract students from India.
“I would not look at these kind of magazines. Frankly the local agents in India do charge huge amounts to students and parents aspiring for MBBS admissions. CMEI has helped me a lot and I feel very lucky to attend seminars held by CMEI in Bangalore,” said Pankaj Malhotra.
Deepa Desai, Pankaj’s cousin sister, has just cleared her class 12th, this year and hopes to join Shihezi University for MBBS admissions of Sept.
2012.
“It’s younger generation is becoming more mature, more daring and more international. They be on the internet and find all the necessary answer for studying abroad. That’s helping Indian parents and students to reach its peaceful rise,” said Becky Zhang, Vice President – CMEI.
One university associate dean sees the growing number of Indian students studying MBBS in China as a reflection of the interaction between the economies of China and India.
“We have to proper educate the Indian students in the seminars held in India about Chinese Medical Universities and inform the note of caution to be aware of the fake and illegal agents across the country who promise for MBBS admissions in China,” said Becky Zhang, Vice President – CMEI.
“It’s just a booming business in India to have people thinking they’re going to make money off of people wanting to go to school. I’d rather not see the Indian students spend their money that way,” said Becky Zhang, VP at China MBBS Educational Institution, who regularly travels to India to advise students and their parents about how to make the right choices.
The number of Indian students studying in China is expected to continue rising. With the broader range of studies and the amazing infrastructure and student facilities, it will provide an unprecedented opportunity for the exchange of ideas and expertise across the countries.
